How to organize Secret Santa
- Enter the exchange name (for example, "Office party 2026") and the participants, one per line. If two people share a name, add an initial.
- If couples or siblings shouldn't draw each other, add them under "Exclusions". The rule applies both ways.
- Add the budget, the date, and optionally a message for everyone: address, time, or theme.
- Press "Draw names". Nobody draws themselves and every exclusion is respected.
- Send each person their link with the WhatsApp button or copy it. When they open it, they see who they're buying for, plus the budget and date.
Can the organizer see who drew whom?
Not unless they open someone else's link. The organizer's screen only lists names with their buttons, so the organizer can take part without knowing the pairs. Each link encodes a single person's match, so the name isn't readable at a glance.
Everything happens in your browser: no accounts, no emails, and the match sits in the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to any server. The draw is saved only in this browser, so you can copy a link again if someone loses it.
Pass-the-phone mode
If everyone is in the same room, you don't need links. Choose "Pass the phone": the app asks each person to take the phone in turn, shows their match, and hides it before the next person. It's perfect for drawing names at the same meeting where you plan the exchange.
Tips for a great gift exchange
- Set a clear budget and a shopping deadline.
- Ask everyone to share three gift ideas in the group chat, without saying who they drew.
- Try a theme: something handmade, a book, something red, or a white elephant twist.
- At the party, have each person give clues about their match before handing over the gift.
- If someone drops out after the draw, draw again and send everyone new links: the old ones will no longer match.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to sign up or collect emails?
No. Just type the names and share the links by WhatsApp, text, or any chat app. It's free.
What if someone loses their link?
Open this page in the same browser where you ran the draw: it's saved there and you can copy their link again. Don't draw again, because that would change everyone's match.
Does it work with an odd number of people?
Yes. Everyone gives to one person and receives from a different one, whether there are 3, 7, or 50 participants.
Why does it say the draw is impossible?
With too many exclusions, sometimes no valid combination exists, for example 3 people with one excluded couple. Remove an exclusion or add participants.
Can the organizer take part too?
Yes. Add your name to the list and send the links without opening them; open only yours to see who you're buying for.
